I was born and raised in Central New York State- country much like Southwestern Wisconsin- cows and hills and even cheese. I followed the typical track- college, more college, career, house and too much hard work and being cooped up inside to really enjoy the things I was passionate about. Finally, at the late age of thirty something, I decided that it was time to live! Adventure called!
I have always loved anything outdoors and active- so I started to try things that I had never done but had always wanted to do. I became a ski patroller, began mountain biking, did some mountain bike racing and triathlons, backpacked in Alaska, kayaked, began trail running and eventually quit the job, sold the house, packed up the dog, the camping gear and the bikes and headed out to explore the country. I eventually landed in Montana and spent a year there as a ski bum, playing in the mountains while training for my first marathon on the back roads and trails of the Beartooth Mountains.
Three years ago, I moved back to Madison and discovered road biking again- something I had always loved as a teenager but had never consisted of more than exploring the NY countryside by myself on my beloved Fuji. Last season, I joined a local women’s cycling club, completed 6 centuries (but not in a row!), discovered cyclocross racing and met many new active friends and teammates. One being, Amanda Pischke, who introduced me to the Dave Ride and offered me the opportunity to join Team242 on their adventure and quest. I am very much looking forward to the Dave Ride and for the chance to contribute to the American Heart Association. Heart disease has touched the family of someone very special to me and so I will ride for him and his family.
