A funny happened while flipping through a magazine a couple months ago...

I was really intrigued by an ad I saw in Outdoor Magazine for a bike equipment company that featured a map of the United States with city names that were identical to prominent cities of countries around the world. The ad encouraged the reader to choose their adventure or something like that. So in a way, at that point, I did. I decided we’d have a little international incident, here in the states by connecting a couple of those dots.

After originally intending to travel from Oslo, MN to Moscow, ID it was brought to my attention that not only was the trip somewhere around 1300 miles, but a sizeable chunk of that was through the Rocky Mountains. Not exactly 100 miles a day kind of terrain. Luckily, from my experience working with another large non-profit health organization and covering territory in southwest WI I knew there was a tiny village called Moscow (I actually got lost going to a meeting and stumbled across it) not far from Madison. Revisiting the maps it made for a nearly perfect week and a day distance (and kept us out the mountains-for now).

We also moved date back this year for a change. Having a travel day on the end of the trip was a real plus last year. With the Labor Day holiday there to use, I figure it will work out quite nicely. We’ll also coming back through Beloit for the last day this year but with a twist, we’re late enough in the season that students will be on campus which creates a whole new opportunity.

Who knows, maybe the next generation of riders and dreamers will find themselves traveling to Moscow that day...
